Bluebell Wood,Sheffield, provides care and support for local children with life limiting and life threatening conditions. Bluebell Wood began a phased opening for residential care in September 2008. When fully open there will be eight beds for respite, emergency and end of life care. Currently more than 80 children and their families are being helped through planned regular support. Once fully open, up to 200 children will receive support from Bluebell Wood each year through regular care in their own homes, plus planned periods of respite care in the hospice. On average two weeks will be offered each year, where the whole family will be welcome at the hospice to be looked after and supported. Children will come form across South Yorkshire, East Derbyshire and the North Midlands. It will cost £2.4 million every year to offer this complete package of support, and with less than four per cent coming from the government. The money donated through Jane's Appeal is helping Bluebell Wood meet running costs and has provided the equivalent cost of funding one full-time nurse.
