Registered Charity No 1051514
Hannah House in Rothwell, Leeds is a "home from home" styled facility providing planned or emergency short-break care for children up to age 18 with complex health needs. NHS Leeds funds the service but it relies on charitable donations to continually improve the facilities At Hannah House the staff endeavour to enable each child to enjoy the experience of a new environment, new activities and form new relationships. Whilst short-break care allows parents/carers to have a break from the stress of caring 24 hours a day and allows siblings and other family members to spend time together.
Jane Tomlinson selected Hannah House as one of the first charities she would support. Jane and her family lived local to Hannah House and knew of the service Hannah House provides.
With the money raised by Jane's Appeal Hannah House has been able to refit the spa room with a full multi-sensory spa. This incorporates a spa, bubble tubes, fibre optic lights, a disco ball and stereo. It means the children and young people who attend Hannah House can relax in the soothing warm waters of the spa whilst having the auditory and visual senses stimulated.
Hannah House has, with the money donated, also leased a fully adapted mini-bus for a period of five years. This allows staff to take resident children out on trips. They have been able to go to Sheffield to see Disney on Ice, to Scarborough, to Knowsley Safari Park, Lightwater Valley and many more including local attractions within Leeds. For some of our Children and Young people this may be there only opportunity for long distance excursions due to the limitations of their physical disability and travelling.
The other long-term project that Hannah House is still working on with the money given, is a Multi-Sensory garden. The multi-sensory garden will be fully wheelchair accessible with planting to appeal to all the senses.
