Money raised through Jane's Appeal and partnership with the Leeds 10K now also forms part of the £10m Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal, which forms part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation. The new oncology wing at St James's in Leeds delivers unparalleled levels of cancer care and treatment to the people of Yorkshire. It is the largest of its kind in Europe and at the leading edge in cancer diagnosis, treatment and care. The 11 storey building, a private finance initiative PFI), is designed to meet the needs of patients in a catchment area of 2.6m of Yorkshire's population.

The intention of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal is to acquire and develop in collaboration with the manufacturers, the next generation of radiotherapy equipment and in so doing enable the service to compete with the world leaders on equal terms. Ten per cent is to fund improvements to the patient environment and 30 per cent to establish an academic presence to further this research and development. The remaining 60 per cent is to acquire and operate two developmental linear accelerators for the administration of radiotherapy.

Following consultation with Leeds Inter Faiths Forum and patients across Yorkshire, and using funds raised by the 2007 Jane Tomlinson's Leeds 10k, artist Keiko Mukaide was commissioned to design decorative glass artwork for the multi-faith centre. A diagnosis of cancer is a traumatic life event and it is therefore important to have a dedicated space in a hospital where people can go to reflect and meditate and to draw strength from their values and beliefs. In its original state, the Multi-Faith Centre was a plain, oval shaped room with no external windows. It is was therefore felt essential that this space should be enhanced with decorative artwork to create a sense of light and provide a tranquil and spiritual ambience within the room.

"It has been a great pleasure to be associated with The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Jane Tomlinson was such an amazing person with such determination to succeed and an inspiration to other cancer sufferers. The charitable work Jane carried out has benefited numerous patients in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals during her lifetime. The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is a fitting legacy which will continue to benefit others into the future. The highly successful first two Leeds 10ks' funded provision of a multi faith chapel in our new cancer wing, which has given great comfort to many and on their behalf we would like to thank the The Jane Tomlinson Appeal and all who contributed so generously. The Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal is now well advanced in establishing world leading cancer therapy for our fellow citizens and we hope that the public and The Jane Tomlinson Appeal will continue their support for such a worthy cause."
