The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was established by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE to raise funds for children's and cancer charities.

2002

Events:
York Half Marathon, London Marathon, London Triathlon, Great North Run

The following was written to mark the Jane Tomlinson Appeal raising £2million:

"The 2002 London Marathon was a big deal for me, being my debut at the event. It turned out to be a dream debut for me and the day that I truly fell in love with the Flora London Marathon. However, my abiding memory of the day was not the race itself, but watching the highlights show later that afternoon, and being so moved by the story of another woman who had also made her debut that morning. That woman was Jane Tomlinson, a woman with immense strength, courage and dedication to her family and her cause. I didn't actually get to meet Jane until later that year although I felt inspired by her already. I was honoured to present her with her award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in December and on meeting her in person was even more struck by the woman that was Jane Tomlinson."
