The following was written to mark the Jane Tomlinson Appeal raising £2million:
In March 2003, Jane and her brother Luke tandem cycled 1,060 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End. A year later the pair made the 2,500 mile journey from Rome to Leeds. On their return, Luke wrote the following poem to capture some of the memories of the incredible journeys.
You Didn't Think It Was Going To Be Easy?
Our starting point
The 'End to End'
We had a few laughs
And made new friends.
'King of the Mountains'
'Bring back Dick'
If you find him
Make it quick.
The Dales Way
That set us off,
Loads of Ale
And right good scoff.
Many memories
Good and bad,
Did we really
Do all that?
Rome to Home
Now that were daft
But still we found
Some time to laugh
Hoping 'Last In's' bike
Would come out bent
Make good telly
At any rate.
The sense of journey
Truly captured
Scenery tarmac
And oh….'Cake Rapture'
Constantly pursued
That woman off the telly
Ever steeper hills
Legs like jelly
On occasion
With its worn thin
Willy Fraises
Maintain a grin
Now them montages
They were fab.
I love to watch them
Back to back.
The wind swept day
'Last In' turned blue
All uncertain
What to do.
His 'Dicky Ticker' sent him home
…….from Rome
Well that wasn't fair!!!
He didn't actually cycle there (lazy git!!).
Meeting again
In Amiens
Four Musketeers
One in a suit.
The one who'd hung up
His cycling boots.
As years move on
Finances redressed
Life back in order
It makes more sense.
Overall,
I wouldn't have missed it.
Them documentaries
Take the biscuit.
