The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is thrilled to be the partner charity of the Perkins Great Eastern Run for a second year.

The Tomlinson family has strong links with the Peterborough area, although Jane spent most of her life in Yorkshire, she lived in Peterborough when her husband Mike worked in the city. Their daughter Rebecca, one of three children, was born at      Peterborough District Hospital and led the race in 2016.

Rebecca said: "We're so excited that the Perkins Great Eastern Run has chosen to support the Jane Tomlinson Appeal again in 2017. My parents moved to Peterborough not long after they got married and I was born there, so the city will always be really special to me. To know that the city is helping to carry on mum's legacy now is really touching."

Mike Tomlinson, Jane's husband, said: "We are thrilled to be involved in the Perkins Great Eastern Run for a second year and wanted to give something back. Jane Tomlinson Appeal runners raised £3,500 at the event in 2016; the charity has topped up that sum to £5,000 to give back to the city's good causes."

The Perkins Great Eastern Run is organised by Peterborough Council. Annette Joyce, the council's director for city services and resources said: "The Perkins Great Eastern run is a fantastic event full of extraordinary people doing extraordinary things and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal is no exception. We're delighted at their support for Peterborough and incredibly grateful for this new community fund that is going to benefit charities in our city."

In this new community initiative there are five grants available and nominations are welcome from charities in Peterborough that support children or anyone affected by cancer. To nominate, people can pick up a form from the Visitor Information Centre on Bridge Street or download our form

  • Nominations must be received by Monday 14th August to be considered for a grant.
