Building firm aims to cement its reputation as charity benefactor

A building company's staff is laying the foundations for a successful KC Hull 10K Corporate Challenge.

Thirty employees at Hull-based MKM Building Supplies have grand designs on being the fastest firm in the city by taking part in this year's KC Hull Corporate Challenge on Sunday 19th May.

The competition - part of the popular Asda Foundation Run For All  Hull 10K - is one of the biggest corporate challenges in the region and this year, with exactly a month to go until race day, more than 300 businessmen and women have already signed up to take part.

As well as trying to secure bragging rights, MKM will be raising money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Mark Smith, Financial Director at MKM, said: "We're proud of our Yorkshire roots and one of our core values is supporting local and regional charities.

"The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is really close to our hearts as it was born out of the legacy of an incredibly inspiring Yorkshirewoman who showed some of the amazing grit the county is famous for.

"The events held in her name now continue to inspire others and thousands have so far taken part in the Hull 10K.

"We're thrilled to be among them. It's a fantastic event that brings the whole of Hull together, whatever their backgrounds, many of whom are taking part because they have been touched by a devastating illness themselves."

Teams who take part in the KC Hull 10K Corporate Challenge, will not only challenge each other to be first past the finishing post in this year's Hull 10K on May 19, they will also use their brain and brawns to be crowned winners of a Cryptic Quest event at a special pre-race networking night.

The event is sponsored by KC which, along with dozens of other businesses, will be trying to beat MKM to the finishers' tape. This year KC has a team of 32 runners - one of the biggest in the field.

Anna Millar, KC's Community Relations Manager, said: "We've entered a team into the Corporate Challenge every year and our team grows each year. It's a brilliant event to bring companies together, it builds team spirit and it's great for building a bit of friendly rivalry with other local businesses. It's also a great way for colleagues to get to know each other at both the event and the networking evening beforehand.

"Most importantly, it's also a great way to raise money for charity. "

A corporate team entry for 10 costs £550, while smaller firms can enter a team of five for £275. The price includes the networking evening. To enter or for more information go to www.forallevents.co.uk/run-for-all
