The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is celebrating a milestone year in 2016 with an exciting new event. The Appeal is an official partner charity for the 2016 World Triathlon Series, taking place in Leeds on 11th and 12th June.
With 2016 seeing the Leeds 10K enter it's 10th year, it is a poignant year for both Leeds and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. After being forced to retire from her fundraising challenges in 2006, Jane channelled her remaining energy into launching the Leeds 10K, of which the first event was held in June 2007.
Jane herself took on many Triathlons as part of her fundraising journey, making this type of event particularly significant to The Appeal. Between 2000 and 2007 Jane took on an Ironman, two half Ironmans and three London Triathlons. These events contributed to her incredible legacy, raising over £1,850,000 for children's and cancer charities.
The decision to participate in the World Triathlon Series' debut in Leeds was a simple one. As a well-loved Yorkshire-woman it is a fantastic opportunity to engage supporters and continue to support Jane's legacy across the region.
The Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon is the highlight of the UK Triathlon calendar, and offers athletes a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete on the same course as the world's best.
The triathlon attracts over 5,000 triathletes to compete on the unique 'point to point' course in Leeds City Centre - the home of the Leeds 10K.
- Open water swim in the glorious Roudhay Park Lake.
- Cycle leg covering parts of the 2014 Tour De France route.
