Fundraiser Julian Wild is celebrating an incredible achievement after completing 3 swim challenges in aid of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
A self-confessed amateur swimmer, Julian chose to take on '3 Giant Swims' in honour of his 62nd birthday.
The Eton Swim
The Bantham Swoosh
The Coniston End-to-End
The first of these was the 5KM Eton Swim in the Olympic setting of Dorney Lake, on 25th May. Following this, Julian completed the Bantham Swoosh on 5th July - a 6km distance down the River Avon in South Devon .
Julian's final challenge, which he completed on 5th September, was the iconic Coniston End-to End. This 5.25mile event covered the full length of Lake Coniston in the picturesque Lake District. With a former world record competitor completing the event in just over 2 hours, Julian achieved the fantastic time of 3hours 52minues.
Julian said "Apart from being 62, I am pretty asthmatic so not a super athlete! I swim most days but taught myself to do the crawl, only ever having learnt breast stroke."
As a participant in Run For All events (including the Hull and York 10Ks), Julian has taken on previous Appeal Team fundraising events such as the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District Walks.
Of his decision to take on this incredible challenge in aid of the The Appeal, Julian said "Jane Tomlinson was an inspiration to us all and fought her illness with great courage…I thought I would find a few more challenges to raise a little money for a great cause".
