The Appeal are celebrating a fantastic fundraising achievement by Hermes, who took part in the Leeds 10K earlier this year.
The team of 31 colleagues completed the Leeds 10K Corporate Challenge on 12th July 2015, raising an incredible £6817.00 for The Appeal. With the addition of Gift Aid, Hermes' fundraising total will reach over £8,000. This is an amazing achievement which will make an enormous difference to The Appeal.
Team member Claire Phelan said "Having previously watched my colleagues run the Jane Tomlinson 10K for two summers I decided after summer 2014 I wanted to be part of the Hermes team in 2015. Having attempted my first 10K - The Abbey Dash - at the age of 43 having never run before with 3 months of running under my belt, the atmosphere and sense of achievement gave me the confidence to join my colleagues in summer 2015.
I eagerly signed up for the race with the Hermes corporate team and trained evenings after work and weekends, with like-minded colleagues who had the same drive and determination to not only raise money for this extremely worthwhile charity but improve their racing times from previous events. Shaving over 6 minutes off my previous time has given me the drive to run again next summer in under an hour and raise even more money for charity!"
Recruitment Manager Vicky Cowie was also part of the Hermes Leeds 10K team. Of her motivation to take on the event she said "…to bond as a team at Hermes, to raise money for charity and to achieve something together!" Vicky says the team's motivation throughout their training was to beat each other's times, and that finishing the event was "amazing - it was great to do something as a team and to also raise money for such a worthy cause". To other teams considering the challenge Vicky advises "do it, it was great to bond as a team and the atmosphere on the day was unforgettable".
Team member Hugo Martin said "It is a great experience and good team building event. It is so well-organised but my favourite bit is before the race starts, getting the team together for a group photo and walking down to the start line. The beer afterwards is also very nice!"
After raising an amazing £3317.00 via their Just Giving page, the Hermes team applied to the Tony Rampton Trust - a charitable trust that provides match funding to good causes. With the Trust awarding a grant of £3,500, the team have reached a fantastic fundraising total.
Kim Seddon, Fundraising Officer at the Jane Tomlinson Appeal said 'We'd like to say a huge thank you to the Hermes team and congratulate them on a truly memorable achievement. Their support has been absolutely incredible and we hope that the whole team are very proud. A huge thank you to Adrian Berry for getting the team together and organising their application to the Trust'.
