Our fundraisers take on all sorts of incredible challenges to help us raise money for fantastic children's and cancer causes across the North and Midlands. One dedicated #AppealTeam fundraiser, Emily Macaulay, is calling on YOU to join her for her fundraising challenge in 2017: #PeoplePowerRun. Emily talks about her challenge and her motivations for taking this on:
"In 2007 I read 'The Luxury of Time' by Jane and Mike Tomlinson and it changed my life. When I got a place in the London Marathon, seven months after Jane had died, I knew I had to run for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. I wanted to raise money to continue the good work she had started, and I wanted - even in a very small way - to contribute to keeping her legacy alive. Since then I've set myself a challenge almost every year to raise funds for the Appeal. Amongst the others I've completed Ironman 70.3 Galway, run from Exeter to Leeds (330 miles in 3 weeks) and run the equivalent distance of Lands End to John O'Groats.
"This year my challenge is a bit different though. This time it is not just about what I can do. This year I need you!
"In 2017 I am calling on people to get involved in #PeoplePowerRun where I will run on 50 occasions with an individual or group, a minimum of 5K and post a selfie with that person(s) / group on social media afterwards. It's that simple. You can read more about #PeoplePowerRun and the stories behind the runs I've done for it so far on my blog at https://emilyjmacaulay.wordpress.com/this-years-challenge/
"Interested? I will be in Leeds on Saturday 8 July (the day before the Leeds 10K) and it would be great to get as many Jane Tomlinson Appeal supporters running together as possible, so I'll be at the Woodhouse Moor Parkrun that morning and if you'd like to join me...well, that would be fabulous.
"If you can't make that Parkrun but want to get involved visit my blog and sign up and we can try and sort some options. I'm based in Exeter in Devon so logistics are a little challenging, but if I can get to you I will.
All the best,
