Childhood bereavement care

The Appeal plans to fund a new service to provide bereavement counselling and support to children in the North and Midlands affected by the loss of a parent or significant loved one, whether a parent, a sibling, or a grandparent.

Dedicated bereavement support, tailored specifically to the needs of children and delivered in their 'own language', will be offered both in person and online.

Figures show that in Leeds alone, 7% of children - around 10,800 - will be bereaved of a parent or sibling by the age of 18.

Over 2,000 of these children will be affected in primary school.

National estimates suggest that one parent dies every 22 minutes.

With Jane Tomlinson's own children losing their mother in childhood, the Appeal aims to support other children going through tragic circumstances.

The scheme is currently in development. Please check back for more details.
