Kids ready to snap to it in Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior Run

Up to 1,500 big-hearted youngsters will hit the streets of Leeds in May to take on a FREE fun run challenge in aid of charity.

They will be taking part in the annual Arena Group Leeds Junior and Mini Run, which is organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All and takes place on the same day as the Leeds Half Marathon.

The mini and junior run is now in its sixth year and, thanks to the sponsorship of Wakefield-based Arena Group, is the biggest free mass participation children's event in Yorkshire.

This year's run is being held on Sunday 11th May. There are two distances - 2.5km for youngsters aged 9-14 and 1.5km for children 3-8 - with both routes finishing alongside the city's landmark Millennium Square. All finishers receive a medal.

Children taking part are encouraged to raise a small amount of money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal or another charity of their choice. This year the appeal is supporting Leeds-based charity SNAPS, which helps children with special needs and their families. It currently supports over 350 families each year.

The charity provides practical help and advice for families and stages hydrotherapy and drop-in sessions at the Penny Field School in Meanwood.

SNAPS general manager Angela Furminger said: "We're thrilled to have been chosen as the benefitting charity for this year's Arena Group Mini and Junior Run. Whatever the youngsters raise - big or small - will make a huge difference to our families."

Adrian Fitzpatrick, managing director of Arena Group, document management specialists, said: "We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of such a great event.

"It is gratifying that our support allows children to enter for free. It is always heartening to see so many youngsters taking on a challenge to help others and we hope SNAPS receives a big boost from the event to help it with its excellent work."

Mini and Junior Run event lead Lynne Preston said: "The mini and junior runs are a brilliant way for kids to get actively involved on half-marathon day and enjoy the thrill of being cheered on by crowds of spectators.

"Both runs attract youngsters of all abilities and all those who take part should be very proud that local good causes benefit thanks to their efforts."
