St Gemma's 365 days of care service is launched

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is often contacted by charitable organisations asking for grants or donations towards an array of worthy causes.

Unfortunalty it is not possible for us to support  every request we receive but when we can its great to be able to see the difference the grants can make to so many.

Recently St Gemma's Hospice contacted the Appeal seeking support for their 365 days of care appeal. As an organisation close to the Appeal's heart, following the care Jane received while at St Gemma's, the trustees felt it was a cause we had to support.

St Gemma's Hospice currently provides care and support to patients and their carers via the Hospice community team who visit patients in their own homes.

With vast knowledge and experience of caring for and supporting people living with a terminal illness, the Community Nurse Specialists are key to the community team.

The service the nurses provide currently operates Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm but following the launch of the Appeal St Gemma's will be able to extend the Community Nurse Specialist services and operate seven days a week.

Gail Chapman, Fundraising Manager said: "Thanks to the generosity of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and our supporters, the St. Gemma's community nursing service is now available seven days a week.  Our community nurses have just finished their first weekend of working and all went well.  As well as benefiting patients, the service was particularly valued by other professionals working in the community who were able to call our nurse specialists for advice.  On behalf of everyone at St. Gemma's Hospice, thank you so much for your support in helping us provide a valuable and essential service in the community at the weekends."

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal has donated just over £9000 to St Gemma's which will fund the first three months of the 365 days of care.
