2016 Miles in 2016

Fundraiser Steve Irving has set himself the amazing challenge of '2016 miles in 2016'.

With a Run For All 10K Season Ticket, Steve will tackle the Lincoln, Hull, Leeds, Pennine, Nottingham and York 10K towards his goal. Averaging out at 168 miles per month, Steve will complete his fantastic challenge throughout next year.

Initially, Steve will be aiming to complete 200 miles per month allowing him to get ahead of schedule ready for his wedding and honeymoon later next year!

An avid sportsman in his younger years, Steve has recently dusted off his running shoes in aid of charity. Steve said 'many years ago, I used to play rugby, swim, cycle, water-ski, and run! One day, I just packed it all in.... I did the odd run here and there, but nothing to really get me going again.'

Of his motivation to get running again, Steve said 'In March 2014, I noticed a small lump in my neck, the size of a pea. I was referred to the hospital where I was told it was a tumour. As soon as you hear the word tumour, all sorts start running through your mind... Within a couple of days, I was admitted to hospital and the tumour was removed. Following tests, I was told it was benign but I would be monitored over the coming months.'

'12 months on, I decided to get back into my running and raise some money for a charity. In April 2015, I did my first competitive race in over 5 years, the Guiseley Gallop. When I finished, the sense of achievement was immense - I was straight on the internet looking for other races to enter!'

Since his return to running events, Steve has completed a further 7 10Ks. This includes the 2015 Leeds 10K, which Steve completed as part of the Run With The Rhinos team raising money for The Appeal and the Leeds Rhino's Foundation.

After thoroughly enjoying fundraising for the event, Steve said 'It felt good knowing that money raised would be helping others, so I thought, I want to do something BIG! This will be my first challenge I have set myself and I decided to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, as what Jane did herself, was and should be inspiring to others - it certainly spurred me on!"
