This bank holiday weekend, Appeal Team runner Andrea Ainsworth is set to take on the Rock 'n' Roll Liverpool Half Marathon to fundraise for amazing children's and cancer charities. She has trained through hamstring tendinopathy to prepare for the race. "I'm very excited but nervous as well!" said Andrea.
Andrea first tried running after her daughter was born but "never got on with it. I found the gym was a better option! I retook it up I would say around five years ago because of depression; I call it my therapy. I can't praise it enough for getting me out of the house when I need a boost."
Describing her motivation to challenge herself to do Liverpool Half, Andrea said: "I want to prove to myself I can do it. I've always said I'd like to give it a go, so my time is now.
"I'm more of a jogger, I like to plod along at my own place. I'm not looking to set any records; if I get a PB, then brilliant!"
Andrea added the fact that money that is raised locally and is given to local causes, is what inspired her to support the Appeal at this fantastic event.
"I'm just a normal woman who has discovered a great hobby and over the past few years found it has helped me with my depression. Even if I do say so, I think I'm quite good at it and in the meantime if I can raise a few pounds to help people with cancer in any which way or form, I'm happy to do so. I'd encourage anyone who is thinking about it to give it a go!"
We value Andrea's support so much and she has already smashed her fundraising target to raise over £200 for the Appeal. You can support Andrea through her Just Giving page here.
