How The Money Is Spent

When the Appeal was launched back in 2002 Jane & Mike Tomlinson set themselves the challenge of raising as much money as possible in order to support an array of children's and cancer charities across the country. With every endurance event Jane did came an overhwelming level of support from members of the public and before her death in 2007 Jane had raised an amazing £1.85million.

Over ten years down the line, an incredible £4million has now been raised and we must say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated, pulled on their running shoes or taken on a challenge for the Appeal.

Thanks to this support the Appeal has in turn been able to support an incredible number of charities: from Hannah House and Leeds General Infirmary to St Gemma's Hospice and local community groups across Yorkshire.

We have been very lucky to work with a number of very special charities over the years and it is thanks to your fundraising that we've been able to aid them in their provision of vital services across the region.

St Gemma's

St Gemma's Hospice - donation of £37,500 towards the refurbishment Appeal.

Following the unwavering support we have received from the Yorkshire region over the years, it has always been important that the money we raise in Yorkshire is invested back into the region by supporting other charitable organisations. So in 2010 we held the 'Big Charity Give Away' in conjunction with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Hull Daily Mail and York Press where we gave out grants totalling in excess of £100,000 to charities both big and small.

Here are just a few of the organisations who benefitted...

  • Swarcliffe Good Neighbours £15,000
  • Pyramid of Arts £3,588
  • Meanwood Valley Farm £4,977
  • Leeds Children's Charity Holiday home £6,000
  • Armley Scouts £3,000

More recently we held a Big Give Away in Burnley after the 2013 Pennine 10K where local personality and star of Safe Style windows Jeff Brown raised an incredible £10,000 for the Appeal.

The money Jeff raised was donated to charities who applied for a grant as part of our Big Give Away with the Burnley Express.
