Are you in a band? Or would you like to volunteer?

Here at the Jane Tomlinson Appeal we are looking for bands and DJ's to help support our Appeal Team runners at the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon.

On October 20th over 6000 people will take to the streets of York and the Yorkshire countryside to run 26.2miles in aid of their chosen charity. Of those runners an incredible 800 will be sporting our blue t-shirts and running to support the Appeal.

Since its launch in January this year the support for the event has been overwhelming. Event organisers, Marathon Yorkshire, are hoping to create that festival feel in October for both runners and spectators alike and so we need your help!

To help keep runners motivated as they clock up the miles we are looking for bands, DJ's, cheerleaders and choir groups to entertain the runners and spectators at specific points around the route.

Should you be interested in finding out more or wish to get involved please get in touch with our team at

Not in a band but want to get involved. Why not volunteer?

A small army of volunteers are needed to make the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon happen with people needed to help in baggage, start/finish areas, marshalling on course, information points through to water stations. So why not get involved.

Who can volunteer?
Everyone is welcome to volunteer the only recommendation we make is that volunteers are aged over 16 to volunteer independently (14 and 15 year olds can volunteer with a supervising parent/guardian).

What roles are available?
Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles including:
- Start/Finish
- Route Marshals
- Senior Marshals
- Drink Station Marshals
- Baggage Store Marshals
- Race Office

You just need lots of enthusiasm and a proactive attitude, excellent communications skills and to enjoy working as part of a team and you can help ensure a positive experience for our thousands of runners.

Benefits of volunteering?
- Meeting new people
- Helping local and national charities
- Supporting and improving the experience of our thousands of participants

Refreshments will be provided during your shift and in addition to a huge thank you from The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon Team, all volunteers will receive an electronic certificate of appreciation after the event. A reward and recognition document will also follow shortly as part of our "Eventeers" scheme.
