The Appeal is celebrating with our fantastic fundraiser Nicky Busby, who has completed her amazing challenge to run 1000K in in 2015. Taking on the challenge to raise money for The Appeal, Nicky has smashed her £1000 target to raise an incredible £1211.
Nicky set herself the challenge to run 1000K at the beginning of the year and started clocking up her kilometres from the get go with a run on New Year's Day from Scarborough Spa to the Sea Life Centre and back. Since then Nicky has determinedly continued running towards her goal, participating in many organised events throughout the year. This has included the Yorkshire Half Marathon in April, the Leeds Half Marathon in May and the Leeds 10K in July.
We covered Nicky's inspirational story earlier this year as she marked the halfway point of her 1000K journey. Of her drive to complete the challenge she said "Jane was an incredible inspiration. Her determination to complete a series of athletic challenges despite battling terminal cancer was incredible. Whenever I think about giving up I simply think about Jane and how hard it must have been for her".
Nicky's participation in the Yorkshire 10 Mile on 11thOctober marked the completion of her 1000K challenge. As she crossed the finish line of the first ever Yorkshire 10 Mile, Nicky also crossed the finish line on an inspirational 10 months of determined training and dedicated fundraising for The Appeal.
Of her fantastic achievement Nicky said "At the start of the year I wasn't even sure if it was possible for me to run 1000K in a year! I have proved to myself that with determination and commitment for a worthy cause, anything is possible!
I hope I have given inspiration to others who are looking at setting themselves a great challenge.
The key to success is to never doubt your capabilities. Always remember those who are worse off than yourself and be thankful to each and every person who sponsors you in helping you reach your fundraising target."
We'd like to say a huge thank you to Nicky for her fantastic fundraising and congratulate her on a truly memorable and inspirational achievement.
